How We Filmed Santa Claus Without Traveling to the North Pole

How can the magical Santa’s workshop and a living room with a special Christmas atmosphere be filmed in a single day of shooting?
How do you create feature-film-style images in a studio?
How do you photograph an Advent calendar that doesn’t even exist as a finished product at this point?
Our team opted for a hybrid production, in which the film sets where the actors perform were created digitally.
How does hybrid production work?
The actors are filmed in front of a green screen in the studio. All camera movements are tracked and displayed live on the director’s monitor alongside a virtual background rendered in real time. Although the environments are digital, the film crew and the client can decide right there on set whether everything fits together perfectly.
Instead of using a green screen, a finished image with a digital environment can be recorded right in the studio. Synchronized with the camera movements, a virtual film set rendered in real time is displayed on a screen in the background.

Brighter Images Thanks to Artificial Intelligence
Experience shows that getting the last 20 percent out of the footage in post-production requires 80 percent of the work. To make our virtual backgrounds even more realistic and emotionally compelling, we use AI. This saves a significant amount of time while still delivering greater detail and high production value.
Comprehensive Support for the Campaign
Alongside the video shoot, our agency also conducted the photo shoot. Among other things, we designed the key visual for the front of the Bosch Advent calendar and finalized images for all other marketing initiatives. For the shoot and post-production, we created a virtual replica of the calendar, since the finished product wasn’t available at that time.
